How long is this day?

When I was a teenager, I went on a lot of ‘overnights’ and at one point, my mom told me I wouldn’t be allowed to go anymore unless I got some sleep. I would come home after not sleeping all night, collapse into bed, and then get sick for the next two days. The same [...]

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween from Grace and myself. We went to “Trunk or Treat” at church tonight, our first Halloween event of three I plan to get to. Grace trick-or-treated for the first time at church members’ cars … the displays were impressive and included hay bales, lights, music, etc. It was pretty neat. There [...]

Kettlebell Goddess Workout

My latest issue of Vitalics magazine arrived a week or two ago, and I was ecstatic to find that a new DVD specifically designed for us women has just been released! It is called the Kettlebell Goddess Workout and includes a full 2 hours and 25 minutes of workouts to focus on your abs, lower [...]

Horse Number Three

Last week during Band, I found out I had been ‘first chair’ the entire time. I won’t bore you with the whole story, but I was pretty happy. So, tonight while rehearsing, I was reminded of something that happened at least twenty years ago.

Brian’s leave

With all of the excitement around here lately, I’m not sure I have even mentioned that Brian is coming home on leave! I had my first concert last Friday night.
I’m not sure which was cooler. Performing again as part of an ensemble or hearing about Grace’s reaction.
Everything went really well, and as you can see, I even found an ankle-length, black, short-sleeved dress in time! (think Ebay) I thought we sounded pretty good and enjoyed myself. I [...]

support the troops

If you are still looking for ways you can support our troops, here is another program that a friend passed my way. Check out Operation Paperback.

a quiet day with Mama

Yesterday was Grace’s “real” birthday, and we spent a quiet day together. We played a lot with some of her new toys, like her kitchen and easel. Then we went out to lunch at Red Robin, where of course they have balloons and colors and it’s just the greatest, Mama! Okay, she didn’t say that, [...]

Welcome!

I'm Rachel - mom, wife, youth minister, and student! I'm also a deployment survivor! My husband, Brian, is an OEF veteran and returned in June 2007 from Afghanistan. This blog has followed Grace and I while we made our way here at home ... and still now as we all adjust to being a family again and prepare for another deployment in 2009. Thanks for reading!
